Rev. Maurice S. Porter I

Born the heir to a rich preaching legacy, Rev. Maurice S. Porter I represents the fifth generation of Christian ministers in his family. He is the proud 10th pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Hartford, Connecticut.

His love for learning was nurtured and developed while attending the public school systems in New Jersey and South Carolina. After completing high school, he went on to matriculate at Denmark Technical College where he excelled academically.

Upon completion of his first degree, Rev. Porter enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was stationed at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. While faithfully serving his country, Rev. Porter was deployed to Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Kuwait for which he gained many awards and accolades for exemplary and selfless service. It was also during his military career that Rev. Porter answered his call to Ministry.

Since being licensed to preach the Gospel at the age of 20, nothing has brought him more joy than being the medium by which the Word of God reaches people. After being honorably discharged from the United States Air Force, Rev. Porter matriculated at the esteemed Morehouse College and the Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse School of Religion. He endeavors to continue his educational pursuits at Yale Divinity School.

He served as Youth Minister at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. While at Shiloh, he received the rites of ordination. He has also served as Interim Pastor of New Macedonia Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia and Senior Pastor of Mt. Anna Missionary Baptist Church in Aiken, South Carolina.

Apart from Rev. Porter’s commitment and devotion to pastoral ministry; he honors another commitment to outreach ministry throughout his community. Some of Rev. Porter’s past and present affiliations and memberships include: Connecticut State Missionary Baptist Convention; American Baptist Churches of Connecticut; the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.; the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education; Helping Hands, Inc. of Aiken County Board of Directors; South Carolina Baptist E&M Convention; General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia; and the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel Assistants of Morehouse College. Rev. Porter reflects Christ love for the Church in his blissful union to the lovely Raneda L. Porter, his best friend and a social worker. Mrs. Porter is a graduate of Winthrop University and the University of South Carolina where she received a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Social Work, respectively. From this union, they have been blessed with four beautiful children: Kennedy McKyé, Taylor Symone, Jordan Elise, and Maurice Sentel, II.

Highly devoted to his cause, Maurice Porter lives by the notion that he is unashamedly Black and unapologetically Christian. He is committed to continuing the prophetic social gospel and dedicates his life to being the change he wishes to see.
